I was born and raised in Philly. Love it to death. Whenever there is the slightest bit of music industry news coming from Philly I try to hype it up the best I can…especially if it involves a close friend and mentor.
Andy Blackman Hurwitz, founder of Ropeadope Records (where I had my first gig out of college) and Baby Loves Music, is embarking on a new endeavor, which I proudly helped to instigate. With the partnership of Drexel University’s Marcy Rauer Wagman, the two are starting a new entertainment law firm.
To kick things off, they’re throwing a sick panel/party on Sunday May 16 entitled “Show Me The Money — How To Earn a Living in the Modern Day Music Industry”, which is very much akin to the sorts of events we throw at SoundCtrl (ours are better of course!). The panel features Marc Allan from Red Light Management (a former Ropeadoper who also has been very kind to me), old school DJ/producer Schooly D (you may know him from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force theme song), and Dan Reed who is the legendary Program Director for WXPN. Also, to top it off, my good friend Kuf Knotz will be performing (def check out his tunes).
Live in Philly and wanna go for a stroll to Marbar in University City? Live outside of NYC and don’t mind hopping on the Bolt Bus for a night of awesome discussion and networking? Then cop tickets here. And stay tuned for more info on Wagman Hurwitz because they’re going to be doing some exciting things for entertainment law. Mark my words.
