Spotify unveiled on Tuesday a new mobile radio app for Android devices through the Google Play Store. Like Apple’s iOS Spotify app, users can either pay $9.99 a month for an ad-free premium subscription or, for U.S. listeners, subscribe to a free service with occasional advertisements.
The free radio service offers users unlimited songs and stations, with an easy way to save songs you really like. Spotify hopes to eventually release similar free radio services to those outside the U.S.
This push into mobile radio on the Google platform should help the music-streaming service add to its already growing consumer base. Spotify released numbers Tuesday, claiming over 15 million active users and 4 million paying subscribers. This is an increase of about 1 million paying users since the beginning of the year.
