MySpace Reveals Relaunch Preview

by Dave Mainella

Former social networking behemoth MySpace recently unveiled a long-awaited remodeling.  While there is no official launch date, the site has released a sneak-peak preview that reveals a beautifully designed interface that can’t help but make one excited about MySpace again.

The design is reminiscent of a blended collection of today’s most popular social media.  An emphasis on visuals immediately draws comparisons to Pinterest and Instagram, while a sliding profile layout hints at Facebook’s Timeline.  But the overall effect is very visually appealing and unique.  It will be interesting to see how the graphic improvement translates to functionality.

The introductory video to the new MySpace heavily features part-owner Justin Timberlake.  His new profile makes it clear that MySpace still aims to grab the attention of musicians, artists, and their fans.  A clean display of music videos, photos, albums, and music mixes will help to achieve that goal.  An analytical feature called “Top Fans” allows artists access to demographic information.

A message from MySpace explains, “We’re hard at work building the new MySpace, entirely from scratch. But we’re staying true to our roots in one important way—empowering people to express themselves however they want. So whether you’re a musician, photographer, filmmaker, designer or just a dedicated fan, we’d love for you to be a part of our brand new community.”

MySpace is now accepting email sign-ups for an invitation to join their new social community.
