Editor’s Note: I had heard about Skifta through my friend Morgan a few weeks ago. Since I don’t have an Android to download the app, I had SoundCtrl blogger extraodinaire Alex Horowitz take a stab at it.
Have you ever seen one of those commercials where someone pulls up media — movies, pictures, music, etc. — on a mobile device, then with the flick of a finger seems to magically swipe the same media through the air and right onto a television? Pretty cool, right?

According to Engadget, Skifta is the first android app to be DLNA certified. That means it will be able to stream all of the media on your mobile device straight to any DLNA certified television, Playstation 3, stereo, etc.
The ability to watch movies on your TV just by having them on your smartphone is very cool already, but further potential applications of this kind of technology is limited only by the creativity of the user. Imagine being able to take turns picking the music at a party by letting guests take turns connecting their smartphone to the stereo and streaming their favorite playlists. As long as the stereo is DLNA certified, all you really need is for your party-goers to download the free Skifta app and let them connect to your wifi.
The more DLNA certified apps and hardware we see on the marketplace, the closer we are to a fully interconnected world, where all of our media can live in one place and be immediately accessible on another. With cloud media storage on the rise and DLNA devices in the marketplace, the ability to share truly anything — instantly — is nearly upon us.
