Last night, the 16th Annual Webby Awards were held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
During an evening filled with five word acceptance speeches, Internet jokes, and trending hastags, The 16th Annual Webby Awards, which honors excellence on the Internet, took a moment to pay tribute to Apple Founder Steve Jobs. A bevy of celebrities and cultural icons, including President Obama, Bono, President Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers, Will.I.Am and more, paid tribute to the visionary in a stirring tribute comprised of five word sentences that conveyed both their love and admiration. The tribute was introduced by John Hodgman and Justin Long, known for their iconic “I’m a Mac” series of commercials, and Richard Dreyfuss, of the famous 1997 “Crazy Ones” Apple commercial. Dreyfuss, took a moment to discuss the current leaders of the Internet, including Mark Zuckerberg, saying “if you’re going to take our privacy away from us, why don’t ‘you tell us something private about yourselves. And if you’re going to change our world, why don’t you pay for it because it’s theft.” His five words about one of the Internet greats? “Exception that proves the rule.” The Apple gang watched the remainder of the show backstage at The Hammerstein Ballroom, joined by Jason Sedeikus and Mike O’Brien of SNL.
