It seems to be the summer of ‘firsts.’ MoMa will be hosting its very first sound art exhibition from August 10th through November 3rd, 2013. This group show is comprised of 16 artists that work in multiple different fields – from visual arts to programming.
The main focus of the show is to create an interactive space in which sound becomes a social space. In other words, curator Barbara London and assistant curator Leora Morinis are interested in emphasizing the importance of open space as an audio experience – very much in line with what Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is doing with the Park Avenue Tunnel, i.e., creating a community of speakers and listeners.
The works are geared towards understanding the malleability of sound, its inaudibility, the ways in which sound travels in both a confined and open space, through recordings, architectural interventions, visualizations and the list goes on.
Make sure to check this show out & join MoMA in celebrating its entrance in the sound art world. It’s bound to be exciting!
