I thought I would share the ideas of 5 nominees and ask them all the same questions. That way, you, the readers, can decide on who is worth nominating. Note: you can nominate more than one person/company.
Today we’re covering journalist Annie Reuter who is ALMOST at 50 nominations. Find out what her deal is and you decide if you think she’s worth being a finalist.
1. Tell me who you are in 140 characters or less.
I’m a passionate music blogger whose dream is to tour with bands & uncover daily life as a musician. I love to ask the questions no one asks.
2. Why and how did you get involved in the music industry?
I decided to become a music journalist after covering a Gavin DeGraw concert my sophomore year of college. I still remember it perfectly. I was standing in the front row, notebook and pen in one hand, digital camera in the other and I just remember thinking, “If I could do this the rest of my life I would!” Gavin was my first impromptu band interview, I just walked up to him after the show and asked him a few questions for the school paper. Since graduating college, I started up my blog, managed a band and act as a publicist for artists I truly believe in. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
3. What’s your idea? Does your idea/your work/your company fill a void in the music industry? Is your idea working? why or why not?
My idea revolves around my music blog, You Sing, I Write. Growing up a music fan, I would spend countless hours scouring the Internet and magazines for the latest news on my favorite bands. So, as a blogger I make sure I transcribe each interview in full so the die hard fans can read everything about their favorite artist. I pride my blog in asking the questions that musicians haven’t been asked before and even reach out to fans through Twitter so they can send me questions they’ve been dying to ask, but never had the chance to.
I think I am filling a void as far as music blogs go. Having a journalism background, I report the facts and readers trust my word as the truth. My blog has really taken off and I think music lovers appreciate my diversity. I’m not just covering the hip, Brooklyn-based indie band, I’m going to Nashville to cover the country music festival, spending a few days on tour with a band and asking the questions everyone wants to know — do groupies really exist? What’s going on in a musician’s head while he’s onstage performing? What triggered the inspiration behind their hit song? I strive to write a post a day and for the most part, I’ve succeeded in that. I ask questions the music fan wants to know and not what the latest gossip magazines cover. Hopefully readers can see my passion.
4. What are you doing to promote FlashFwd and getting people to nominate you?
I’ve been reaching out on all the social media sites — Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, my blog, eblasts. I keep promising everyone if I do go I’ll interview their favorite bands attending SXSW. A pretty daunting task, but I plan on keeping my word. I’ve already received a ton of RT and link love from friends and fans on Facebook and Twitter. I think it helps that a lot of the bands I covered last year when attending have exploded onto the scene, (Anya Marina, Meiko, Parachute, Tyrone Wells) so I’ve been directing readers to my coverage last year in hopes that it will entice them to vote for me and have me attend this year!
