Chatting with…a Flashfwd nominee Pt 3
Posted on | February 26, 2010 | No Comments
I met Aidan Nulman on Tuesday night through my buddy Alex. Real sharp and extremely interesting guy to chat with. I told him about Flashfwd and by Wednesday night, he had 25 nominations for Youphonics and created this splash page, so I felt he deserved to be highlighted in a post.
1. Tell me who you are in 140 characters or less.
Mo Rocca’s evil (and younger) twin. An ambitious music-lovin’ Montrealer. A delusional Gen-Y starting his own company. Your new best friend.
2. Why and how did you get involved in the music industry?
One of my earliest memories from my life is being driven by my parents to a children’s music playgroup — I played the triangle and sang Three Blind Mice. Since then, I’ve been bitten by the entertainment industry bug. I’ve since played drums in a high-school punk rock band, promoted punk and electro shows, worked in an instrument store’s warehouse, and produced musical theatre. Every time I think I’m out, I’m pulled right back in… It’s like a bad habit, but I love it.
3. What’s your idea? Does your idea/your work/your company fill a void in the music industry? Is your idea working? why or why not? Who is doing something similar to you? How are you different/better?
My idea is an online musical collaboration tool, but one that’s completely unlike the existing solutions in the space. People are way too focused on getting a “finished” product out there, and in doing so, we lose the opportunity to inspire others — not to mention, completely ignore how different that is than the experience of just jamming in someone’s basement. We see the future as a robust web of music… the musical equivalent of what Facebook calls “the social graph”.
4. What was the last CD you bought? What was the last concert you went to?
Hmm… the last physical CD I bought was In Deference To A Broken Back, the debut LP from one of my favourite bands, Eau Claire-based The Daredevil Christopher Wright. I was trekking across the Northwest — from Coeur d’Alene, ID to Chicago, IL — and serendipitously passed through Minneapolis just as they were having their album launch party (I had been listening to them for years and was on their mailing list). But, more recently, I purchased the digital download of the first installment of Dave Holland’s Archive Series while it was on sale, on Ian Rogers’ (Twitter) recommendation. As for the last show I saw was another Montreal friend’s band, Sweet Mother Logic, play at my friend Jon’s Indie Montreal showcase at a bar called Green Room.
