The opportunity to tour the world with your favorite band is is the kind of thing dreams are made of.
If your favorite band happens to be M83, perhaps your dream could come true.
To market their upcoming album, the French electronic music outfit opted to pull out all the stops, offering the opportunity for one multi-talented musician to join the band on their world tour beginning in Mexico in October of 2011.
Insane marketing stunts are far from a new phenomenon in the music world, but this may just top my list of all-time best music marketing concepts.
The real beauty of the thing is that it’s a total win-win.
Obviously for one lucky (and extremely talented) fan, this is an unreal offer. Your favorite band, a tour of the whole world, an entire year to rock — what more could a band offer a fan?
For the band, not only does the contest cost them virtually nothing, it actually fills a need. Following the departure of former band member Nicolas Fromageau, Anthony Gonzalez has largely operated the band as a solo act. Needless to say some extra help on tour from a worthy musician could come in handy.
Kudos to M83 — if you’re going to pull off a marketing stunt, and fill a staff vacancy at the same time, why not make a worthy fan’s dream come true while you’re at it? They’ve certainly peeked my interest — I’m looking forward to checking out the new album “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” as soon as it drops on October 18.
