Chattaboom, is a social media application that allows users to communicate with one another through sharing music hooks of artists’ songs. Chattaboom is integrated with Facebook and allows people to search through music based on selected genres and moods. Thanks to Ethno Multimedia Group, owners of Chattaboom and its partnership with MediaNet, people who sign up for Chattaboom will have access to millions of recent hits, indie artists and classics. Instead of setting fire to an ex’s car, now Adele’s Set Fire To Rain chorus can send that same message with Chattaboom.
Chataboom users are able to comment on the hook, view further artist information as well as buy songs and albums which highlights Chataboom’s other asset: artist discovery. Chattaboom began compiling song submissions from artists in 2011 and now charges a small fee for indie artist uploads. Chattaboom allows artists to track how many times their hook is shared, have a more direct hand in distribution and communicate with those sharing their art. It is still unclear if there will be a marriage of Chataboom and Facebook’s new Myspace Music-inspired BandPage which allows artists to stream music and interact with fans.
Granted, Chattaboom is currently in its infancy stages and still has bugs to fix (some snippets start before the hook). However, it joins BreakMySong, another Ethno Multimedia Group’s social media application which connects artists with DJs across the world as direct responses to the emergence of social media platforms as music distribution. According to Internet marketing firm Dream Systems Media’s AdAge-assisted infograph, Facebook added over 200 million new users in 2011 and has over 3.5 billion pieces of contents shared weekly as of recent making Chattaboom a logical progression for music sharing. These types of social media applications open the door for music video clips becoming .gif file profile pics or even fans potentially given incentives (free songs, money, etc) to share artists’ music with friends. Chattaboom could open the door for a revolution in music sharing or simply be a cool way to tell someone “maybe she won’t but then again maybe she will.”
Keep sharing, people.
