On Friday, October 26 and Saturday October 27, the third annual Moogfest (titled to honor the late inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Robert Moog) will invade downtown Asheville, North Carolina with an army of electronic, rock, and hip-hop artists. They’ll be inhabiting loads of venues like the Orange Peel, the Asheville Music Hall, and the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium to bring fans some of music’s finest.
So, who’s playing? Primus will headline, on their first ever special 3-D-enhanced tour along with notable artists like Miike Snow, Explosions in the Sky and Orbital. But, let’s back up a second…3-D performance? Aren’t all live concerts already in the third dimension because it’s real life? Well, Primus is about to flip science on its head by giving festival-goers some serious sensory stimuli with the aid of a 3-D presentation (glasses included) and Quad Surround Sound.
Another highlight is a limited-seat special event by Asheville Art Museum’s Invisible: The New Obsolete. This interesting performance involves a typewriter that controls an electric piano through some clever mechanism, turning typist into pianist. Just imagine what they could do with a word processor!
Weekend passes ($100-$145), daily general admission tix ($65-$75) and VIP packages ($250) go on sale Friday, August 10 at 12 noon EDT at www.moogfest.org.
