Billboard is now accepting submissions for their Innovators Showcase Startup Competition, to be held at this year’s FutureSound conference on November 15 and 16 in San Francisco.  The competition provides the opportunity for digital music startups to present their company or product to a panel of judges and before an audience that includes label executives, managers, publishers, artists, developers, and investors.

While one startup will be crowned winner at the end of the conference and receive featured coverage in Billboard magazine, all participating applicants stand to enjoy various promotional and dealmaking benefits.

Startups are considered eligible if they are pre-revenue, with a working demo or prototype, and somehow directed towards at least one of the many aspects of the music industry.

Interested parties can apply here before the October 12, 2012 deadline.  Finalists will be notified on October 19, 2012, and will receive a free display table at the conference.  Applicants not selected as finalists are encouraged to register for the conference and host a demo table in the designated “Innovators Showcase” section of the exhibit area.

Billboard FutureSound explains on their website, “Our goal is to help tomorrow’s innovators get the attention and traction they need to succeed in this highly competitive space, while also giving our attendees a glimpse at what’s next in the ever-evolving digital music space.”

The judges for the Innovators Showcase Startup Competition have yet to be announced, but the first group of FutureSound speakers are set to include VP of Digital Strategy at Epitaph, Jason Feinberg; founding partner at GVC Capital, Hany Nada; Topsin CEO Ian Rogers; and VP of Digital Strategy and Business Development at digitalmusic.org, Bill Wilson.  More speakers will continue to be announced on a rolling basis.

These speaking guests, as well as the expected submissions of many innovative startups, promise to make this fall’s FutureSound conference an insightful exploration into the future of digital music, full of progressive conversations about next-generation opportunities for the industry.
